My team leaves for Costa Rica this Sunday, May 29th and will be serving there until June 11th. We could really use your prayers! I don’t know how much access I’ll have to the Internet, but will do my best to post updates. We also love to read your responses to the things that we post. It’s so encouraging to know we have people interested in the work happening there and that you are praying for us! Three of our team members are already sick and we haven’t even left yet! :) Please pray that Emily, Khrizia and Greg would get better from their colds before we leave (and not be contagious for the rest of the team and our host family)! Stay Updated
I’m heading to the Tenderloin in SF tomorrow with a team of 15 students and 2 other teachers. It’s going to be a challenging week, so we really need your prayers.

I’m excited to show you guys what we’re doing AS we’re doing it! I figure the more you guys are involved, the more you’ll be praying because it’ll be like you’re there with us. (Well not quite, but you know what I mean!)
One more prayer request: My Costa Rica team has a total of $2900 to raise before May 1, (next Sunday). It’ll happen, but please pray that God gives me peace because it’s something I can’t (and shouldn’t) micro-manage while I’m at City Impact! I need to release control and trust God!

I’ve been thinking about something like this forever, but like the Man House idea, it never got much traction… till now.
It’s funny how what seems like a crazy idea one day suddenly seems to make so much sense and actually seems possible!
I visited a cafe in Berkeley called Café Yesterday and it is almost exactly what I’d had in mind for something I want to see get started in Pacifica. Actually, it’s even better!
On top of being a cool place to hang out with great atmosphere and local artists coming in to do gigs, Café Yesterday is a non-profit that helps out their community.
Imagine starting a cafe like that in Pacifica that wasn’t out to make a buck, but actually was intentionally there to make this community better?
Little crazy, maybe, but we’re praying, and hopefully you will too! If you want to get specific, I have this hunch that we’re supposed to pray for that open spot next to Fresh & Easy. Let’s watch God do something!
It’s been just over a week since the 4 of us moved into the house, and so far we’ve already had 2 guests from NY stay with us for a couple nights, and for the next 3 days, a small team from Invisible Children will be staying with us and our pastor.
In case you don’t know what they do: “Invisible Children uses film, creativity and social action to end the use of child soldiers in Joseph Kony’s rebel war and restore LRA-affected communities in central Africa to peace and prosperity.”
If you have seen the Invisible Children film, you know of northern Uganda’s night commuters and child soldiers. One of the guys staying with us is from Uganda and will be sharing his story at Alma Heights on Monday. I’m so excited.
Anyways, thanks for your prayers! The house is coming together and is already being used for ministry!
Yes, another thing to raise money for… woohoo! But I do need to raise $300 to lead a team of 18 students to serve in the Tenderloin in San Francisco next month. Want to help?
First off, I just wanted to say thank you for praying for me and what God is doing here in Pacifica.
In the last update I sent, I think we were hoping to find out if we were going to be offered the house to rent for the missional guys house.
Well we met with the landlords and had a great conversation, and they really want us to rent the house. I actually used to rent a room there, so I kinda had an advantage!
Here’s the thing I need your prayers for: one of the 4 guys has decided to move to another state to be closer to family, so we are down to 3 guys and we need to find a 4th guy asap so that we can continue with this and the house.
When I told the landlord (just 2 days after we had turned in our rental applications), I told her I didn’t blame her if she posted the house on Craigslist the next day since I don’t know how long it will take us to find a 4th. I figured this could be a way for God to shut the door if this wasn’t the right house for us. (Even though I was already pretty sure it was!)
Well, she responded with such encouraging words and reminded me that God is in control and that she absolutely wants the house to be used for ministry.
That said, I need some people to back me up in prayer with this situation.
Please pray:
- if we are supposed to have this house that God would provide the 4th person (and not just anybody who can pay rent, but someone who is on the same page as us and how we want to use the house
- if we are not supposed to have this house, that God would close the door on this house and help us find a 3 bdr that is affordable and appropriate.
There’s also some potential for our 4th person to not end up moving, so please pray for God’s will to be done there!
